So yesterday I participated in Day of Silence. Which is a day where high school students don't talk for the entire school day. We do it in solidarity with LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgendered) students who feel silenced by homophobia and general anti-gay hate. It's not a protest or a demonstration. It's an exercise in empathy and meant to reach out to those students and show them that they're not alone. Of course their were some stupid people who didn't get it and tried to get people to talk. That isn't the point though. If you do accidentally talk or stop early it doesn't matter that much. The fact that you were willing to do even for a small amount of time really means a lot. I know because my mom is lesbian and she thought it was wonderful and was very appreciative of the people at my school who did. That's all I have to say. Thank you for your time.
